Today I meet up with my client to discuss what it is that he requires. I personally thought the meeting went well I was able to get all the information I needed and I was able to use my technical knowledge to help the client with deciding on what he wanted. He told me he wanted me to design a comic strip and to then animate it. I was able to show him different forms of animation that he could consider; I showed him what an animatic was and what an animated comic strip was, and with this he was able to pick between them or if he wanted I would create a full 2D animation of the comic strip. The animatic and animated comic strip that were shown to him were videos I was using to research different ways of animating a comic strip. After watching the different types of animation my client decided to that he wanted me to create an animated comic strip. I am really happy to have my client pick this one because I have never created animated comic strip and I believe that it would be a great experience for me and a really good skill for the future.
The client provided me with a basic storyboard to work from. I will re-design the storyboard, creating characters and backgrounds making it more advanced. The client and I went through the storyboard and what different ways I could create it and if the client wanted certain things created in a certain way. The first thing that I the client wanted to work out was the music. The client has a producer that will create the music for me but I would need to give the client the timescale to work the music with the animation. To fix this I suggested that I would create an animatic for him to give the producer the sense of timing for the music.
I also found this meeting very helpful to find out his thoughts and design process of what he wants the characters and scenery to look like, he also told me that Whipscross forest is exactly the image he imagined, with him saying this I have decided that I would go and take pictures videos and record ambient sounds for primary research. The client wants the scenery to be mystically and gloomy creating the sense of fear, confusion, and gloomy, and at the end the scenery will be more harmonised. When he told me about this I suggested to create shadowy transitions, using shade to create the gloomy effect and when they emerge from the forest with will become really bright like the end of a tunnel.
The characters are based of himself and his daughter and he is calling this animation 'Daddy's daughter: It's a beautiful world'.
while in the meeting I was thinking of ways I can do the project and I think I will use Photoshop and Illustrator for the design process drawing, inking and colouring. For the movement of the panels and characters I thought of two different software that I can use, first one being a piece of software that I haven't used much After effects. This way will work because I can use the puppet tool to move different parts of the picture. The next software I can use is Flash, with Flash I can use tweens to move the panel in and out the stage as well as the bone tool for movement of the character.
I think that with Flash it will be easier to move the scenes and panels but for moving the characters I think the puppet tool will work better, maybe I could use both to do different parts. In my research you can see where I got this from with one of the videos I looked at.
It would have been good to have taken photos of the meeting Tom :)
